We have a large deck that is perfect for our family, but can also accommodate a crowd. Each year I try to do something different with my flower boxes, pots or pillows. This year I really wanted to try and capture a bistro feeling combined with the cozy atmosphere of some of my favorite restaurants. The ones where dining is on a stone patio or old porch surrounded by lush plants, beautiful flowers and the shady canapy of trees!
So that meant some help from your favorite and my favorite little black can. Hello spray gloss paint!
All of the items that got an update I've had for years. The 2 tables are about a decade old...leftover from my shabby chic days. The clay pots, are just as old. Their orange color doesn't look good on our honey colored deck. I used to have them down below in the yard, but they are bloody heavy and haven't made it out of the garage in a long while. However, I've held onto all these items because they are versatile and sturdy. Always two good questions when asking yourself "should it stay or should it go?"
Three makeovers for less than $10 of spray paint:
The pots....
Although it seems we must say farewell for awhile to the cool morning and evening breezes from the past several days. We are bracing for a hideous heat wave to roll in this week. UGH! Somehow, I don't think croissants and berries will taste as good indoors...
Nice outdoor updates!!! I was just sprucing my outdoor area this week as well....only to need to come back inside! Stay cool!! xo, Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteWe have had a lot more rain this year than usual, so our deck has hardly gotten used. You've inspired me to get out there with my Webster to knock down the spider webs and to pull more of my own pretties out of the garage! I wintered my hibiscus indoors last year and I need to repot it and get it back OUTDOORS on the deck! Thank you for these lovely images.....I guess I'd better get to work if I want to dine al fresco, this year!

We have been having cooler weather the past few days, too and the heat is coming back which I sure don't look forward to. I love how your deck looks like it is sitting in the trees.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the casters on the pots. I agree, everything tastes better outside.
ReplyDeleteWith temps in the 100 range, my veranda time is limited to the beginning and ending of the days right now. I too am a fan of black spray paint..........your results look fabulous, especially with pink hibiscus. Enjoy. XO
ReplyDeleteLooks so relaxing and beautiful. We have been spending a ton of time on our deck and in the pool as well....hope this heat wave is short lived....I just told my realtor in Dallas that I am getting a taste of what will be my summer norm....and I don't like it!
ReplyDeleteLooks gorgeous! I have some pots I need to spray too. Thanks for the motivation!
ReplyDeleteHibiscus topiaries?!?! Do those exist?!?! MUST SEE!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm jealous you've been able to enjoy the outdoors recently. We've had one helluva hot, wet summer so far.
Are you taking reservations?
ReplyDeleteBecause I would SO be spending hours out there with you eating pastries and enjoying nature and a little goss.
Everyone is running indoors around here. It's nice to look at your lovely outdoor living space. I'd love to be there in the cooler weather. But it's so hot, I cant even spray paint in the heat! Everything looks really refreshed. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe are currently in the midst of a major heat wave here in NY...but when things cool off a bit, you have really inspired me! Thinking I want to paint all of my terracotta pots now! Can't wait to see more of your lovely outdoor spaces.
ReplyDeleteboy oh boy........
ReplyDeletei love black spray paint.

A lovely spot! Look forward to seeing more...

Black spray paint is my best friend. It's one of those staples in the household next to the flour & sugar!! Your outdoor living looks wonderful. I love what you've done with your pots & table. I have large clay pots on each corner of our pool that were there when we moved in. Each is planted very well but every time I post a picture, the responses I get is 'paint the pots black'. There are 10 huge pots all together, so I would need to buy stock in spray paint first & take arthritis medicine for my pointer finger! Enjoy all those tremendous outdoor moments xx
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of the black spray paint myself. Everything looks great! Go away triple digit temps!!
ReplyDeleteOh I agree. Everything tastes better outside, just wish the weather would cooperate. Love the black gloss pots. Isn't it amazing what a little time and paint will do?
